Orion Diagnostica has licensed its intellectual property to Immunodiagnostic Systems Holdings plc ("IDS")14.08.2009
Orion Diagnostica Oy was the first to launch a commercial PINP (Procollagen type 1 N-terminal Propeptide) assay onto the in vitro diagnostics (IVD) market in 1995. A newly developed, fully-automated PINP immunoassay, used as a bone formation marker, has now been launched on the IDS-iSYS Immunoanalyser.
PINP has found a place in routine clinical use as a bone formation marker, and is of particular value in monitoring the efficacy of expensive bone therapies such as the parathyroid hormone (PTH) analogues such as Forteo® (in the USA) or Forsteo® (in the EU) from Eli Lilly. Such analogues are used in the treatment of osteoporosis, and can promote the growth of new bone in post-menopausal osteoporotic women.
Orion Diagnostica welcomes this beneficial cooperation with IDS to widen the use of the PINP assay with this new platform. The technical transfer of PINP to the IDS-iSYS platform was carried out in record time due to excellent expertise of Orion Diagnostica’s and IDS’ R&D teams.
“We look forward to new possibilities of PINP by providing wider access to this analyte to our customers and we are confident in reaching our common goals with IDS.” says Katja Kääriä, Orion Diagnostica’s Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Export.

The synthesis of type 1 collagen is a crucial step in bone formation and is the major organic component of bone matrix. PINP is cleaved during collagen synthesis and enters the circulation, and its quantification in human serum or plasma therefore provides a valuable measurement of bone formation
