Rota and adenovirus enteritis
Acute diarrhoea is a major cause of childhood morbidity and mortality. Rotavirus and adenovirus account for most cases of acute and severe paediatric diarrhoea.
Rotavirus diarrhoea can lead to dehydration in small children, and in severe cases hospitalisation may be needed. It is important to rapidly identify the cause, as rotavirus is highly contagious and an infected child must be isolated from others to prevent transmission of the virus.
Orion Diagnostica's Diarlex, Rotalex and Adenolex tests provide an easy way of distinguishing rotaviruses and adenoviruses from other microbes in faecal samples.
