Fighting antimicrobial resistance in the EU: First EU One-Health Network meeting held

The European Commission is committed to combatting antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through a holistic, multi-sectorial 'One-Health' approach, involving actions on human health, animal health, the environment and food safety as well as on antimicrobial research and development.

Last week representatives of chief veterinary officers and chief public health officers from all 28 EU countries gathered in Brussels for the first meeting of the ‘One-Health’ Network on AMR. The agenda included the objectives and working methods of the Network; an exchange of views and contribution of the Member States to the Commission's upcoming action plan on AMR and the role that the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) could play in the fight against AMR, focusing on possible contributions, Member States' support and cooperation opportunities.
